GOD HELP ANITA
by
Barb Scott
God help Anita, You know she's wrong...
Stand beside us, and guide us, help us fight for our rights 'til
she's gone...
From the mountains, from the prairies, from the oceans, from our lives...
God help Anita...let us survive...
God...Anita WE WILL
SURVIVE!
(sung to the tune of God Bless America.)
MANSFIELD "U.S.O." HELPS IN WAR AGAINST ANITA
On July 2, "RICHARD'S", the delightful Mansfield bar, held a U.S.O. Party complete with Canteen Show. A popcorn stand and bake sale stood amidst yards of bunting and more flags than you cân see in a cemetery on Veteran's Day. Most patrons came in military uniform and divided their dance time between today's disco and hits of the 1940's. Such celebrities as 'Kate Smith' and 'The Andrews Sisters' performed to the delight of the crowd. Highlight of the show was Barb Scott who sang her own composition "God Help Anita" and was joined by the crowd in a rousing finale. Also on sale were 'Orange Victory Bonds' good for one glass of pineapple juice at maturity in July 1978. Most importantly, all proceeds went to the National Gay Task Force to help fight gay oppression. Manager John Wagenhals and his staff are to be commended for a unique idea and a fun night. RLK
2005
'J.J.'s IS ONE YEAR YOUNG As the champagne flowed and the boisterous crowd gathered around the luscious buffet, 'J.J.'s DISCO" on the St. Clair 'Strip' passed into it's second year on June 29. Well wishers glided and flew by in a blur throughout the fast paced evening with such 'stars' as 'Moms Mabley' popping up, along with Treva and her Trevettes, Melissa Ross, and either Elizabeth Taylor or Jacquetine Susann (this reporter was too high to tell which it was!) Here's to a Happy 2d, 3rd, 4th ETC.
ELEVATED TRAXX
TRAXX opened it's second floor and rooftop garden last month, making it twice as good as it was before. (If that's possible!) The upstairs bar has a kind of New Orleans flavor, leaning towards lazy cruising and intimate chatter, whereas the rooftop garden gives one the chance to catch a breath of fresh air and get away from the crowded disco below.
